Glossary questions.

What is the difference between SEO and SEM?

SEO is work on visibility in free, organic search results. In the broad sense SEM covers all search engine marketing, but in practice it usually means paid campaigns in Google Ads.

What is GEO and how is it different from SEO?

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is work that makes it more likely that ChatGPT, Perplexity or AI Overviews mention your business. It builds on SEO, because AI search engines use similar signals and often Google results.

Where should I start learning SEO?

Start with how Google crawls, indexes and serves pages, then move on to search intent and keywords. Google's SEO Starter Guide and the key terms in this glossary are a good starting point.

A term is missing. Can you add it?

Yes. Tell me which term you were looking for and I will add it in the next update.

Rather have someone do it for you?.

Instead of learning every term, you can order an audit. I will review your site and tell you in plain words what to fix first.
